Bayshore Broadcasting is pleased to announce that Ron Funnell has been named as GM/GSM of Bayshore’s newest radio station, “Sunshine 89.1” in Orillia. Prior to re-locating to the Kitchener-Waterloo region for LCI’s KICX 106 launch, Ron worked in Central Ontario at stations in Orillia, Midland and Bracebridge from 1994-2004. Ron brings a strong background in broadcasting having worked in Hamilton, Kitchener, Orillia and the extended area, including Muskoka, Midland and Barrie. In making the announcement, Bayshore Broadcasting Corporation President Ross Kentner said, “Ron fits our model of community leadership. He has actively supported every community where he has lived including 7-years with the Tay Township Fire Department, 2 as a Captain.” Ron plans to re-locate to the Orillia area with his wife, Sandra, and their children, Emma and Ethan in the summer of 2010. Orillia is one of the fastest growing communities in Canada. The City is the headquarters for the Ontario Provincial Police and home to Georgian College/Lakehead University, the Orillia Opera House, the Mariposa Folk Festival, Stephen Leacock Museum & Festival as well as Casino Rama. Bayshore’s proposal to bring local radio back to Orillia was awarded a license by the CRTC after 7 applicants appeared at a hearing in Orillia in January, 2009. Bayshore Broadcasting has grown from 2 licenses in Owen Sound to a group of 6 full-service radio stations in less than 10 years.
