Have an eye for the OPP and officials from the Ministry of Transportation conducting commercial motor vehicle inspections on Highway 11 today, between Severn Bridge and Old Barrie Road in Orillia ( 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
Orillia OPP Constable Martin Hill says truck drivers are considered professionals, so they are held to a higher standard.
The inspections are part of Canada Road Safety Week.
Police say besides safety checks, drivers will checked for compliance in relation to proper licencing, registration, documentation, pre-check inspections and hours of work.
Hill says he has never been part of this type of initiative, but as his regular day-to-day work as officer, he has pulled over commercial motor vehicles and issued tickets for drivers who are hours and hours above their allotted time limit, tires that are bald that shouldn't be on the road, various equipment failures and oversized loads.
